Fingerprint Image Guidelines

(Please read before uploading your design or fingerprint)

For best results, uploaded images should be:

• Clear and in focus
• High contrast (dark lines on a light background)
• Simple and uncluttered
• Original files whenever possible (not screenshots)

Great image types include:

• Fingerprints
• Handwritten notes or signatures
• Simple line art or logos
• Clean black-and-white images
  

🚫 Please avoid blurry photos, screenshots, faint images, or photos of fingers instead of actual fingerprint impressions.
If there’s ever an issue, we’ll review your image and contact you before engraving.

How to Get a Clear Fingerprint

Recommended Methods (Tested & Reliable)
✔ Ink pad
✔ Pencil + clear tape (tape is required)
✔ Washable markers (Crayola-style)
✔ Dry erase markers
✔ Makeup (eyeliner or mascara)

#1 – Ink Pad (Best Option if Available)

• Lightly ink the fingertip (less is more)
• Either roll the finger gently from one side to the other onto plain white paper or press straight down — try both and see which gives the clearest result
• Make 2–3 prints and choose the best one
• Take a clear photo in good lighting or scan the image

#2 – Pencil + Tape Method

• Shade a small dark patch with a regular pencil
• Rub your fingertip into the graphite
• Press clear tape firmly onto the fingertip
• Stick the tape onto plain white paper
• Repeat 2–3 times and select the clearest print
• This method produces excellent ridge detail when done correctly.
• Take a clear photo in good lighting or scan the image.

#3 – Marker or Makeup Method (Washable markers, dry erase markers, eyeliner, or mascara all work well)

• Lightly colour the fingertip
• Either roll the finger gently from one side to the other onto white paper or press straight down to see which creates the best print
• Make multiple prints and select the best one
• Take a clear photo in good lighting or scan the image
  

⚠️ Works With Care

Paint can work if used very sparingly. Too much paint will fill in the fingerprint lines and reduce detail.

❌ Not Recommended

• Pencil directly on paper (without tape)
• Photos of fingers
• Smudged, overly dark, or partial prints

• Use black or dark ink on plain white paper
• Bold lines engrave more clearly than light strokes
• Keep designs simple - engraving works best with clean outlines

• Use bright, even lighting
• Lay the paper flat
• Photograph straight on (not at an angle)
• Avoid shadows, glare, or textured surfaces underneath
• Scans produce the best results when available.
